I got a new camera for Christmas, and I’ve been enjoying playing with all the bells and whistles and features on it – none of which I ACTUALLY can pretend that I know how to use. But I’ll get it.

I’ve been marinating on an idea for a few weeks now – of doing something to use my camera in different ways throughout the year, and also finding a way to look at my house in a new way. I’ve been staring at the never-ending bathroom remodel for over a year, and I want to get some fresh eyes on other parts of the house. I hadn’t settled on what I wanted to do, and I actually almost gave the idea up. I was looking online for ideas, because there are a lot of weekly photo challenge ideas and lists. And none of them were quite right (I really liked the Dogwood Challenge, and the 52 Frames Challenge). I like bits and pieces of all of them, but I really wanted to center it around my house. So after almost deciding the scrap the idea entirely, I decided to write my own challenge, aimed at historic home owners – but really, any homeowner!

Join in!!!!!

Play along if you’d like – and I hope you do! Because I adore looking at pictures of people’s houses, and the amazing details and craftsmanship that goes into them. It’s really motivational to see other spaces in other parts of the country in various states of restoration!

Participate every week, some weeks, whatever you want! And if you aren’t crazy about a week’s topic, switch it out – the main goal is to have some fun and to show-and-tell. Start whenever you want! My plan is to do my week on Sundays – and since today is the first Sunday of the year, I’m starting today. I probably should have started last week, but I didn’t figure out until yesterday what I wanted to do. So, here we are!

If you want to play along and share your pictures (I’d LOVE to see them!) with the hashtag  #52weeksofhome

You can also tell us which week you’re on, by including a second hashtag #52weeksofhomeweek1 (etc.)

Please share with anyone you think might be interested! I am fully aware that I might be the only person who does this and who thinks this could be fun, and I’ll have a blast and learn more about my camera, and so that’s totally fine. But if anyone wants to join in, I think it’ll be delightful!

Here’s the list (also in pdf format : 52 Weeks of Home), of all the challenges for each week :

Week One : Front Door / Welcome

Start by showing us the gateway to your home, where guests are welcomed!

Welcome to the challenge – I’d love to see what you come up with!

  1. Great idea ! ! I recently bought two ” twist” doorbells. I noticed yours appears larger than mine. Did you mount the doorbell frame onto something else to add to its size and presences? I hope to mount thru the frame also. Don’t know what to do with the small original non functioning round casing doorbell. Any reuse ideas?? Love your posts ! !

    1. We actually haven’t touched ours – it’s exactly as we found it! And it doesn’t work – something is askew with the mechanism inside, so it’s on our “To-Do” list! Let me think on re-use ideas!
