52 Weeks of Home Project – On the Street Where You Live (Week 10)

We love our town. And our street. We were swayed to move here when I got my new teaching job by the amount of old homes, quaint downtown, and a local government that really invests in the buildings and infrastructure in the community. While there are certainly a good number of homes that still need help, there are so many people who are fixing up and making strong homes. It seems to be contagious – one house is restored, and then two more on the same street start working towards restorations.

And yes, I totally was inspired by “My Fair Lady” for this week’s title.

Week 10 : On the Street Where You Live

Your street, walkways, street lights, street signs, community, town – the things you love about where you live!

Our street (and a few on Main Street, which intersects with us) is on the National Register for Historic Places, as a fine collection of Victorian Style homes.

This is the oldest photograph I have of the street, we think from about 1910.

Looking towards Main from our driveway. It really is such a pretty group of homes, all unique in both color and architecture.

Blue skies and bare trees. When the leaves grow in, it becomes harder to see the houses.

Across the street. I LOVE these houses. I think on of the best things about our house, is being able to look at the darling yellow house when sitting on the porch. Also, I took this on trash day. Just keeping it real. 😉

And now a few from back in time – the view of the neighborhood from the tallest third floor window, during a snow storm.

And this year, right after I got my new camera. I LOVE the street in the snow!

It’s just a lovely street to live on.

  1. Your old house posts are so great. Thanks for taking the time and sharing .

We live in an old house in Mount Vernon Iowa. It’s a great little community with some Nice old homes.

Just wanted to pass on this idea to you. I think it would be something that is a great fit and you would enjoy. We put in a LFL Little Free Library. I wish I would have heard about it years earlier, so nice for the neighborhood. Perfect for us, we are at the bottom of the avenue that they close in the winter for sledding and a block from the park with the pool and baseball field. From what I see from your place it seems like a perfect fit!

Thanks again Regards Duane Eash Mount Vernon, IA
