52 Weeks of Home : Week 27 : Where You Rest

Good news! I am writing this post on a new computer, and NOTHING was lost from my crashed laptop – Doug managed to get the hard drive out and get everything recovered, so I can finally get back on track. I’m hoping to do a couple of catch-up blog posts this week – we’ll see. I have a list of things to do that’s a mile long, and I’m still getting everything on the computer the way I want. But WOW does it make a difference not working on a computer from 2008! I am really excited to show you the progress in The Study. But, since a weekly photo challenge waits for no one (or, for broken computers), here goes!

Week 27 : Where You Rest

A bed, a chaise, a favorite chair, a reading nook….any place you take a break

I’m trying very hard to work “rest” into my vocabulary. I am terrible at it. I feel better when I’m getting things done, and when I rest, I think about all the things I could be doing instead. I am getting better at it (being able to take a bath in a clawfoot helps immensely), but I still have  a long way to go. As I’ve been working on Doug’s Study the last couple of weeks, I’ve been getting infinitely excited about getting to do a room for me in the next couple of years. I hate the term “office,” and since I know I’ll be doing lots of projects and planning and drape sewing, my space will be my “Studio.” And I’m already planning on a couple of great places for me to read and relax.

But for now, my favorite place is the one bedroom that’s complete. It won’t be the master long-term, but it is for now.

I love the chaise for reading. I don’t read novels as much as I used to (again, I’m working on that) but I love reading magazines and house books. This is the perfect sunny spot.

And the bed is the best place to nap.

Actually, that’s kind of a lie. I enjoy laying down in here, and sleeping at night, but it’s actually a terrible place to nap. It’s SO BRIGHT. The 6 windows gave me the courage to paint the walls black, but it really is the brightest room in the house. Amazing for so many things, but a midday nap isn’t really on that list.
