We lost our Marina yesterday, after a tough year of blindness and cancer. She was the best little sister to Reese, and then big sister ever to Bonny. (And she was a great only dog in the middle.) Sweet and caring and unfailingly neurotic – we loved her to pieces. She was Doug’s favorite running partner, and my favorite renovation supervisor. And she was the best basketball-watching-couch-snuggler. She’s had a rough year, but her tail wagged in her crazy figure-8 pattern through it all. We are heartbroken to lose her, but even more happy that we had an incredible decade with her. It’s so hard to lose a pet, but there’s comfort in knowing that Bonny will lead the way someday as a big sister herself, whenever we rescue again. Old homes just require pets inside of them. We’ve been so, so lucky to share ours with these sweet girls.

Thank YOU for sharing dear sweet Marina with us! Especially the sweet baby/puppy picture of her. Losing animal companions has been one of the most difficult things in my life. I know exactly how you feel, I have lost many in my lifetime. My current three are 121/2, 13 and 13+ years old. I frequently wonder how much more time I will have them with me. My heart goes out to you both. Big hugs!!! Marina was lucky to be so loved!

So sorry! It is horrible to lose a pet, especially one you’ve had for many years. Your heart has a big hole torn in it. But you gave her a wonderful home and so much love.
