The Absolute Most Perfect Fixture of All Time

I know, that title seems a little dramatic. But I promise you, it’s true.

I was doing that “I can’t sit still and watch TV like a normal person” thing. We had a planned to do a crystal chandelier in this space, and to build it with parts we have (I still want to do that sometime). But I was overwhelmed with time and not having all our lighting stuff organized, so I started looking online, just for fun. I didn’t even think I would find anything I liked.

And then, there it was. The absolute perfect lighting fixture for this space on Ebay. The shape and the brass color REALLY coordinates with the gold pattern of the wallpaper in the scariest and perfect of ways.

LOOK AT THIS.

THESE ANIMALS.

It needed a rewire, so off we went!

We took her apart, and started to put her back together.

It didn’t come with a ceiling canopy, but I have a ton. I used this brass one, and did a little bit of dry-brush painting on it to make it match the fixture, which has just a touch of bronze coloring.

MUCH better match!

Behold. the absolutely grossest of layers of dirt!

Just a little bit of dishsoap and warm water, and it looks like I did some fancy refinishing. Or like I’m a witch – also possible.

Cleaning each piece made me really appreciate all the colors and details here!

All clean, and ready for cosplaying the Pope! “But Amy, it’s August! Why are you wearing a sweater?” Because I did this in December. Spring was a VERY rough time for me this school year, and I had absolutely no energy to do anything but post on Instagram. I have a LOT to catch you up on, and I’m working on that!

Next up – I’ll show you what it looks like in the room once we hung it up!

  1. As much as I enjoy your Instagram, it is SO nice to see you back on the blog. I hope it brought you joy to revisit these images and tell the story of the absolute most perfect fixture. Wearing it on your head was of course a necessity.

  2. Hi, Amy!

Your chandelier is by VIRDEN, late 1920s, and from their Westminster Line. It had matching sconces! If you email me, I’ll send an image from their catalog.

    1. It delights me SO MUCH when I see you two posting on each others blogs!!!!!! My two favorites!!!! 😊
